Hi All
I have a question regarding visitors visa, my parents got multiple Entry 10 years visa in 2007, but have not visited me so far, but this december my Mom is visitng me and in Feb my father( as to avoid harsh winter weather in East Coast), they will leave back in May 2009.
My Question is will there be any issue as their visa was issued in 2007 but they are visiting now
Do I need to send any new documents( I have moved onto EAD )
Looking forward to hear suggestions.
if they have multiple entry 10 year visa then there should be no problems. just for safe side, ask them to carry your cell number, give them you Passport photocopy, EAD photocopy. Make sure they do not show them unless asked for.

lets hope that the administration actually implements what it says it wants to do ...
reducing the waiting times for background checks will help ....so that most adjustment apps will move to the "recommend approval" stage quickly and just wait for the Visa numbers to be current......

None of the responses can help you unless you state your state. Believe me, I have lived in 7 states till now. I went to the dmv in 4 of them.
I went for Driver licence renewal.I have I797 H1B notice of approval for 2 more years.But I don't have it stamped in passport.So when they see it,they said they won't consider it as visa on passport is not valid and expired.Though I am not using ,I have valid EAD card also.So When I shown it ,they renewd my licence.Now I am thinking,is it ok If I use my EAD card for licence renewal as I am not using EAD status now.I want to be on H1B only.I don't want to use EAD now. can anybody tell me will it be alright to use EAD?Does it effect anywhere in my status?

You can take a InfoPass appointment at your local USCIS office and talk to an Immigration Officer (IO). The IO should be able to tell you more details about your case.

I am pretty sure we are in the last state but I will check that and make sure when I get home tonight. We have filled out forms called Packet III and sent them in. I was told that we are waiting for a gereen card number available so we can get a consular processing date. And I tried calling immigration couple time with our case number starting ANK...(for Turkey).I was told by them our case was approved too...
It has been much more then 6months...so you are saying that she can change employers.Very interesting...The lawyer told us otherwise.

Folks,
How are the taxi charges from Chennia airport to the town or station ? Do the drivers charge whatever they feel like or is it controlled?
My parents are leaving back from the US and will be landing in Chennai, they are not from Chennai....so not sure if I should try to book a taxi before hand...or the charges are controlled ? Also, do they have something like pre-paid taxi ?
The flight (emirates) lands at 3 or 4 am.
Also, any recomendations for Hotels ? Ideally near the railway station.

try agoda.com. I always book through them and cheaper than yatra and makemytrip. Sometimes agoda's price is higher than yatra so you have to compare. Just choose a hotel and then compare the price with these three websites. In the last 2 years I Booked hotels in chennai through agoda at least 6 times and everytime the price was atleast 500 to 1000 rs cheaper than other websites. I am talking about 3 and 4 stars.

My attorney received an email notice of I-140 approval (PP) on Mon, June 25. But the online case status showed the application as pending. Finally,today my attorney called and was told that due to "system glitch ", approval notices were sent out in error!! It seems this has done to others too!!
Did anyone else encounter this?

Thanks for the response forgerator. But I would argue that, the problem lies in the fact that there's no obvious link between my work and college major. So if I'm able to somehow re-establish that link, it's still possible to get an H1B. I understand that most H1B visas went to people who work in IT, finance, etc. But I don't see that as an absolute impediment in terms of me getting one.
The key here is that the degree you have attained must be "required" by the job. So you need find a job that requires a degree in French.
Here is the exact language of the law from 8 CFR:
"(iii) Criteria for H-1B petitions involving a specialty occupation.
(A) Standards for specialty occupation position. To qualify as a specialty occupation, the position must meet one of the following criteria:
( 1 ) A baccalaureate or higher degree or its equivalent is normally the minimum requirement for entry into the particular position;
( 2 ) The degree requirement is common to the industry in parallel positions among similar organizations or, in the alternative, an employer may show that its particular position is so complex or unique that it can be performed only by an individual with a degree;
( 3 ) The employer normally requires a degree or its equivalent for the position; or
( 4 ) The nature of the sp ecific duties are so specialized and complex that knowledge required to perform the duties is usually associated with the attainment of a baccalaureate or higher degree.
(B) Petitioner requirements. The petitioner shall submit the following with an H-1B petition involving a specialty occupation:
( 1 ) A certification from the Secretary of Labor that the petitioner has filed a labor condition application with the Secretary,

This sounds like volunteering opportunity to me. May be other senior members on the forum will also throw some light on this scenario.
As far as I know, you can volunteer in any area as long as you do not get paid for those services.
